Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, presents an award to Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Chairman of Qatar Tourism, Akbar Al Baker, at the inauguration of "National Product Week.".

H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, launched the 1000 Opportunities Initiative, which provides local investors with information regarding existing and future investment opportunities, as a part of 'National Product Week'.

H E the Minister inaugurated 'National Product Week', to celebrate Qatari success stories in various sectors, in aims of supporting the localization of supply chains, and ensuring self-sufficiency.

During his discussion of the 1000 Opportunities Initiative, HE explained that it is expected to create significant opportunities for investment and economic growth, as Qatar is currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of operating factories, as they have reached a total of over 806.

A number of prominent guests attended the opening ceremony, including Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa, President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau; Akbar Al Baker, Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways; and Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association.

Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, and President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation 'KAHRAMAA' Engineer Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, as well as other dignitaries attended the event. 

A range of activities will be taking place during ‘National Product week’, such as a conference that will bring together a group of Qatari stakeholders and the most notable personalities in Qatar's economy to discuss a variety of issues and topics linked to the economy.

HE the Minister stressed that the 'National Product Week' represents the peak of a long process of success, spanning the brainstorming phase, production, market access, and the training, preparation, and continual supervision stages, aimed at raising the efficiency and ability of national companies to win supply deals and tenders. 

He also added that It was the continuous cooperation with the relevant authorities and partners that made this possible, particularly QDB, which launched several pioneering initiatives such as the virtual platform for coordination meetings 'Meet Your Manufacturer’.

The Minister stated that over 190 companies had registered on the platform, and the contracts signed totaled over QR63m. This is in addition to organising four successful editions of the Government Procurement and Contracting Conference and Exhibition (Moushtarayat) since 2016, whereby the total deals value ended up in a total of QR3.042bn.

He further stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation with other government agencies and bodies, such as Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), who will present a five year integrated procurement plan during the event.
