France, Germany, Italy, and Romania supports granting EU candidate status to Ukraine

France, Germany, Italy, and Romania support the move to grant Ukraine the status of EU candidate membership, this came in a statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron, who holds the presidency of the Federation currently.

"All four of us support the status of immediate candidate for membership," Macron stated at a press conference in Kyiv Regarding the delivery of heavy weapons which Ukraine has been asking for, to resist the Russian military operation in Donbas, Emmanuel macron announced that France is granting Ukraine with 6 additional CAESAR cannon, self-propelled 155 mm/52-calibre gun-howitzer.
For his part, Mario Draghi, Italian prime minister affirmed this stance and said that Italy supports Ukraine in joining the EU and it will brace this stance In the next European Council.

Olaf Scholz, chancellor of Germany pledged to supply Ukraine with additional weapons, "we support Ukraine by supplying weapons, and we will continue to do so as long as Ukraine needs our support." This came in an unprecedented visit to Kyiv by leaders of France, Italy, Germany, and Romania days before a forthcoming EU decision to grant Ukraine the status of a formally nominated state to join the Union.

European leaders must decide during a June 23-24 summit whether to grant Ukraine candidate status for membership, the first step in a negotiation process that could last for years.
The European Commission is scheduled to announce tomorrow Friday its recommendation to member States on this file.
