Having suffered a cardiac arrest at the European Championships last year, Christian Eriksen was selected for Denmark's national squad for the first time since he collapsed in last year's Euro 2020 opening match against Finland on June 12.

"I expect Christian to go in and be a deciding factor for our team," Hjulmand told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

Hjulmand added "I did not expect him to play right now, realistically I thought he would be ready by the summer. However Christian is with the squad because he is the best in that position."

"Christian is in a really good physical shape," added Hjulmand.

"I saw him against Burnley on Saturday where he was the best player out there. He is a player that thinks faster than most." he further added.

The 30-year-old player signed for Brentford in January as a free agent for the remainder of the season after Inter Milan terminated his contract due to Serie A regulations.

A device called an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) was fitted to Eriksen, who has scored 36 goals in 109 appearances for Denmark. This device cannot be used in the top flight of Italy.

Brentford won 3-1 in the 85th minute of the match, thanks to a goal from Eriksen, who started his second match since his cardiac arrest.

The Danish team has already qualified for the World Cup in Qatar starting in November. Eriksen said in January that he hoped to play at this year's World Cup.
