Buckingham Palace: Queen Elizabeths Funeral to Be Held Sept. 19

The State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, Sept. 19, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on Saturday.

Prior to the state funeral, the Queen will lie-in-state in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects.

Queen Elizabeth II died last Thursday at Balmoral at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Buckingham Palace announced a period of royal mourning started from Friday and will end seven days after the funeral.

King Charles III was formally proclaimed the United Kingdoms monarch at St James's Palace in London on Saturday.
