Beirut Named Capital of Arab Media for 2023

Beirut was declared today as the Capital of Arab Media for the year 2023, based on the decision of the 51st session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which was held on June 16, 2021.

This came during an announcement ceremony in Beirut, in the presence of Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary and Arab League Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, as well as Arab political, media, and diplomatic figures.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Ziyad Makary highlighted the importance of receiving this title, noting at the same time that it constitutes a challenge in light of Lebanon's difficult political and economic conditions, adding that succeeding in this task would prove to the Lebanese people and their Arab brethren that Lebanon will remain a media beacon.

For his part, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi said in a speech during the announcement ceremony, that awarding the "Beirut, Capital of Arab Media" title came to honor Lebanon's rich media record and its professionalism, hoping for Beirut to remain a space for pluralism and harmony.

The ceremony included the screening of two short films, one of which represents the Lebanon of tomorrow, while the other reflects the country's past.
