Baladna Signs $635M Contracts, Launches Airlift of 30,000 U.S. Dairy Cows to Algeria
Qatari agribusiness giant Baladna has announced the signing of second‑phase agreements exceeding $635 million and the launch of a massive 109‑flight airlift program transporting 30,000 high‑yield Holstein dairy cows from nine U.S. states to Algeria. The milestone marks a major execution phase in the company’s $3.5 billion integrated dairy development project in Algeria.
The initiative aims to establish a herd of approximately 270,000 dairy cows, with the capacity to cover up to 50% of Algeria’s powdered milk demand. Officials said the project will generate more than 15,000 jobs in Algeria and around 1,200 jobs in the United States, while procurement and logistics activities are expected to deliver an estimated $250–300 million in economic impact across the U.S. agricultural supply chain.
Spanning nearly 117,000 hectares, the development is positioned as one of the largest integrated dairy farming projects globally, reinforcing long‑term agricultural cooperation between Algeria, the United States, and regional partners. The project is also seen as a strategic step toward advancing national food security and strengthening local production capacity.
