Awqaf Unveils Qatar First Smart Mosque in Muaither

Awqaf inaugurates Qatar’s first smart mosque in Muaither

The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has inaugurated the Qais bin Saad bin Ubadah Mosque in Muaither, marking the launch of Qatar’s first smart mosque. The project represents a milestone in the Ministry’s drive to modernize mosque infrastructure and services, combining traditional Islamic architecture with advanced technologies to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.

Officials described the initiative as part of Awqaf’s expansion plan to construct mosques in new residential areas, ensuring that religious institutions continue to serve as both spiritual and social anchors. The smart mosque model integrates cutting‑edge systems designed to improve efficiency, conserve resources, and promote sustainability.

Among its features are intelligent electricity and water management systems, solar panels that generate clean energy for air‑conditioning and lighting, and a recycling mechanism that repurposes ablution water for toilets and irrigation. These innovations reduce reliance on conventional utilities, lower carbon emissions, and create green spaces around the mosque, reinforcing its role as a community hub while supporting Qatar’s environmental goals.

Assistant Undersecretary for Da’wah and Mosques Affairs, Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari, emphasized that the project reflects constructive collaboration between the Ministry and the private sector. He noted that such partnerships have enabled the integration of smart technologies into mosque construction, enhancing both implementation efficiency and service quality.

The Ministry confirmed that additional smart mosques will be built nationwide in the coming phase, aligning with its Strategic Objectives 2025–2030. These objectives include upgrading mosque infrastructure to international standards, improving the quality of religious services, and embedding sustainability into endowment and utility projects.

The inauguration also supports Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritizes sustainable development and quality of life. By merging timeless religious architecture with modern technology, the Qais bin Saad bin Ubadah Mosque sets a precedent for future projects, strengthening cultural identity while advancing environmental responsibility.
