Ashghal Wins 9 International Safety And Security Awards From British Safety Council

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) represented by Roads Projects Department won nine international security and safety awards from the British Safety Council on the projects of Infrastructure Development Program during 2021, for the third year respectively.

The winning projects include: Roads and Infrastructure Development in Umm Salal (Package 1), South of Al Mashaf (Package -3), Al Ebb and Leabaib (Package -2), Umm Al Abeeriya Village, South Umm Al Amad, North Bu Fasila (Package- 1), and North and East Al Kheesa (Package -2), Al-Kharaitiyat and Izghawa (Package-3), and East Al-Wajba (Package-1 & package-3), in addition to the development projects of South Al-Mashaf (package-7) and the North Ain Khaled development project.

On this occasion, Eng. Saud Al-Tamimi, Director of Roads Projects Department, said that winning nine international health and safety awards for the third year respectively, after winning four awards in 2020 and three in 2019, won by citizens lands projects and existing areas, is a confirmation of Ashghals firm commitment and keenness to maintain health and safety in the projects that Ashghal is carrying out and the leading position it occupies in the construction sector in the State of Qatar in terms of spreading awareness and best practices in health and safety.

He pointed out that Ashghal projects' recurrent winning of safety awards from international institutions is an evidence of the authority's commitment to preserving the health of workers and their safety, as safety is vital pillar of the Ashghal's project implementation strategy.

He added that, during the past year, Public Works Authority implemented 1,440 monitoring campaigns for its projects to determine aspects related to health and labor care, and had succeeded in obtaining licenses from the Ministry of Public Health to establish 14 private clinics for workers, and was able to conduct medical examinations to detect chronic diseases for about 26,000. and 977 workers.

Eng. Saud Al-Tamimi pointed out that pursuing the application of the highest occupational health and safety practices by Ashghal led to achieving a rate of 0.10 percent of injuries and accidents at work sites during 88.7 million working hours in 2021.

CEO of the British Safety Council Mike Robinson confirmed that this award comes in recognition of the commitment of Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and its serious efforts to maintain the safety of its workers and reduce injuries, in addition to accidents and diseases in the work sites.

"The vision of the British Safety Council is that no individual will be injured, harmed or suffer from any disease while performing his work - anywhere in the world, and achieving this goal requires full adherence to laws and legislations, as it requires the commitment of people not only to health and safety, but by giving more attention to health and care in work areas." Robinson added.
