KUWAIT - His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received a phone call on Sunday from United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham, during which the two leaders discussed the latest regional and international developments and reviewed the longstanding ties between their two countries.

His Highness the Amir congratulated Burnham on his appointment by King Charles III as Prime Minister and on forming the new British government. The two sides reviewed the deep-rooted relations between Kuwait and the United Kingdom and discussed several topics of mutual interest, as well as the latest developments in the region and the wider international arena, with particular focus on the current situation in the Middle East.

For his part, the British Prime Minister reaffirmed his country's support for Kuwait and its people, underscoring the United Kingdom's backing for all measures aimed at safeguarding Kuwait's sovereignty, security, and stability.

His Highness the Amir expressed his appreciation to the British Prime Minister, wishing him good health and success in leading his country toward further progress and prosperity, and extending his best wishes for continued development to the British people.

The call came days after Burnham took office in London. He became the United Kingdom's seventh prime minister in a decade on July 20, succeeding Keir Starmer, who stepped down following his resignation as leader of the governing Labour Party. The exchange reflected the tradition of close consultation between Kuwait and the United Kingdom, longstanding partners across political, economic, and defence affairs.
