The Permanent Committee for the Management of the Abu Samra Border Crossing has implemented measures that significantly simplify the entry and exit processes. According to an official, individuals traveling through this border crossing can now complete the required procedures within seconds.

“Increasing the number of counters for emigration and customs to 172 and introducing Pre-Registration Service are among major steps by the committee to facilitate the travellers,” said Captain Shafi Khaliwi Al Shammari, secretary of the committee.

He mentioned that typically, the entry and exit processes for travelers at the Abu Samra Border Crossing require 20 to 40 seconds. However, for those travelers needing an entry visa and fingerprinting, the procedures might take a bit longer. Nevertheless, he highlighted that individuals who pre-register can complete their entry and exit formalities within a 10-second timeframe.

“Pre-Registration Service is available on Metrash 2 for citizens and expatriates and on Hayya Platform for citizens of other GCC countries and visitors,” said Al Shammari.

He mentioned that the Permanent Committee for the Management of the Abu Samra Border Crossing, established in 2013, has been directly overseeing the crossing and implementing necessary measures to enhance traveler facilitation. He stated that the count of emigration counters for both entry and exit has now reached 116 and 50, respectively, summing up to a total of 166 counters.

“As many as 12 counters are set up for customs. The facility for checking the vehicles is operating with the capacity of 60 vehicles at a time,” said Al Shammari.

“The number of counters increased at Abu Samra crossing to speed up the entry and exit procedures especially during the Eid holidays and sport events which witness a large number of travellers,” said Al Shammari. He mentioned that ongoing renovations and developments are taking place at the Abu Samra Border Crossing to include additional administrative and service buildings, further enhancing its capacity.

The Pre-Registration Service for the Abu Samra Border Crossing in Metrash2 is a discretionary offering. It enables citizens and residents to finalize departure and arrival formalities at the Abu Samra border via a designated fast lane.
