Japan kick Saudi Arabia out of Asian Cup and reach quarterfinals

Japan progressed to the Asian Cup quarterfinals by beating Saudi Arabia 1-0, while defending champion Australia required penalties to move beyond Uzbekistan on Monday.

Takehiro Tomiyasu scored for Japan with a header in the twentieth moment and the Saudis made couple of chances regardless of having in excess of 75 percent of the possession.

Japan, which is hoping to win a record fifth Asian Cup title, will next face Vietnam.

Saudi Arabia has not achieved the quarterfinals in 12 years.

Official participation figures put the group at only 6,832 as the Asian Cup kept on being striking for banks of void seats and reverberating serenades.

Australia attempted to make risks as a dull diversion against Uzbekistan finished 0-0 after additional time, before scratching through 4-2 in the shootout.

On his arrival from hamstring damage, Mathew Leckie scored the triumphant punishment.
