What is Qatar’s Current Travel Policy? Here's All You Need to Know

  • 11 months   ago

In continuation of the State of Qatar’s efforts to prevent and contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the country has extended the temporary suspension of inbound flights to Doha.

Here Qatar's Government Communications Office (GCO) answered some of the Frequently Asked Questions on the travel policy being implemented in the country to date, amid the COVID-19 pandemic:

What is Qatar’s current travel policy?

As a part of Phase 1 of lifting restrictions beginning 15 June, only essential flights will be allowed out of Qatar. Upon their return to Qatar, travellers will undergo a mandatory hotel quarantine for two weeks paid for by the traveller.

As a part of Phase 3 of lifting restrictions beginning 1 August, low risk inbound flights for priority passengers (e.g. returning residents) will be allowed.

Flights will continue for cargo, passengers transiting through Doha to other destinations and returning Qatari citizens, who will be subject to quarantine either in official quarantine facilities or at select hotels.

What is the current entry policy for Qatari citizens?

Qatari nationals can return from any destination without specifying a time period. However, they will be required to spend 14 days in quarantine upon arrival in official quarantine facilities.

Can Qatari citizens obtain COVID-free certificates outside the country and return to Qatar?

Yes, Qatari citizens in Turkey can visit four approved hospitals for a COVID-19 test and obtain a COVID-free certificate which is valid for 48 hours.

Travellers with a Qatari residency permit who are in the Republic of Turkey can use this service to return to Qatar once the third phase of the gradual reopening begins (1 August). When the test is conducted in one of the accredited centres and the person is found to be free of the virus, this qualifies him or her to obtain an exception from the mandatory hotel quarantine in Qatar, provided that the certificate holder is committed to home-quarantine for a period of 14 days upon arrival in Qatar.

Those accredited will need to sign a pledge confirming that they will follow home-quarantine regulations in accordance with the procedures and standards set by the Ministry of Public Health.

Can I still leave Qatar?

Yes, outbound flights are still running.

Can I still travel inside Qatar?

It is still possible to travel within Qatar but citizens and residents are advised to reduce their travel as much as possible and make only essential journeys. Public transport, including the Doha Metro, public transit bus and Metrolink, has also been temporarily suspended.

What happens if I have an expired tourist visa?

Visitors in Qatar on tourist visas can stay in Qatar without extending their visas or paying a fee due to the unusual circumstances caused by COVID-19.

Once conditions have returned to normal and flights begin operation to the visitor’s country, the visitor will be granted a grace period to leave Qatar.
