Things to do in Qatar September 10-12
The Qatar Meteorology Department has predicted  local cloud developments during the weekend with a chance of scattered rain, that may be thundery with blowing dust.
And with hot weather conditions during daytime also expected throughout the weekend, its best to stay indoors given that the pandemic precautions are also still in place keeping with norms of Phase 4  lockdown uplifting.

Qatar Museums has up dated timings for MIA, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Fire Station and museum libraries from 1st September. 


Updated timings for MIA, Mathaf Islamic Art Museum and the Fire Station are as follows:
  • Saturday to Thursday: 9 am - 7 pm
  • Friday: 1:30 pm - 7 pm
  • No restriction on number of museum visitors; however, exhibitions will have reduced staff and the necessary social distancing precautions will apply.
  • MIA Library: Same as Museum opening hours
  • Mathaf Library: Sunday to Thursday, 9 am - 2:30 pm
  • No restriction on library visitors but the necessary social distancing precautions will apply.

Qatar Museums’ playgrounds and the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) galleries, along with its Sister Cake Mobile Kiosk, will remain closed until 1 October. 
Though NMoQ galleries remain closed, the museum has launched two digital exhibitions: Qatar’s Culinary Journey and Habitat & Shelters, exploring themes from its permanent galleries as well as content curated by the wider community.

DFI’s Ajyal Film Festival 2020

The eight edition of Ajyal Film Festival - flagship of Doha Film Institute (DFI) is set to take place from November 18 to 23 in a new hybrid format. 
DFI has started accepting juror applications from Qatar and beyond for this year’s popular annual children’s festival.

Short film competition by Sundance TV

SundanceTV has announced its first-ever Shorts competition in the Middle East and North Africa region, following last year’s successful South Africa edition. This year’s winning entrant and three runners-up will have their films broadcast on SundanceTV later in the year.
Participants must provide proof of residence in the MENA. Films should be no longer than 15 minutes and submissions to the 2020 SundanceTV Shorts competition can be made here -

Qatar Museums exhibitions

As per previous weeks, Qatar Museums (QM) major exhibitions at the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) continues.
Visitors are required to reserve tickets in advance on the QM website. During the visit they must present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus-tracing app and wear face masks for the duration of their visit. 

Picasso exhibition at Fire Station

The exhibition features 108 extraordinary artworks by Pablo Picasso selected from the unparalleled collection of the Musée national Picasso in Paris, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and ceramics.
The museums, galleries and heritage sites are open between the hours of 9am to 3pm.  According to the current situation, visitors are required to reserve tickets in advance on the QM website. Those of 12 years of age and older are required to wear masks, present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus tracing app and are checked for normal temperature at the entrance.

Qatar museums are now open to limited public and tickets have to be purchased in advance on the QM website. 
You may also access the collection online which includes masterpieces of Islamic art, metalwork, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, and much more from three continents dating from the 7th to the 19th century.
