Qatar to likely experience thundery rain and strong winds today: Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology announced today, July 22, 2020, that Qatar is experiencing hot weather during daytime and wiill have a chance of local cloud development and scattered rain in western areas during noon time that may become thundery at times.

Thundery Rain

According to the weather update, there is a chance of rain, which may become thundery in some places by the afternoon, and blowing dust is also likely. It added that local cloud development is expected on Wednesday noon with a chance of scattered rain, which may become thundery at times in the western areas, accompanied by strong winds. This, in turn, will cause rising dust and poor visibility. Slightly dusty conditions are also expected offshore today.

Hot Weather

The forecast stated it will be hazy in some places at first, followed by hot daytime conditions and some clouds. 

At 11:30 AM, Qatar had hot weather across the country with Doha recording at 39°C.

The maximum temperature is expected to be 44C in Abu Samra on Wednesday, followed by 42°C in Doha and Dukhan.

Windy Conditions

Offshore areas are likely to see windy conditions in addition to high seas. The wind speed may go up to 30 knots inshore and 25 knots offshore during thundery conditions, with the sea level rising to 8ft in some places.




Marine Warning

The weather office also issued a reminder, through social media, about the marine warning today, "The warning is expected to continue until Thursday evening," it added.

Wave height ranges between 3-5 Ft as per latest observations with wind speed reaching 25 kt. The marine warning remains in effect till tommorow, July 23, 2020.

The weather official added that sea state is moderate to rough and maximum temperature expected in Doha is 42°C.
