Qatar Customs arrests passenger with illegal drugs ‘Shabu’ at HIA

The Hamad International Airport customs took a passenger into custody for trying to smuggle "Shabu", an illegal drug prevalent in some parts of Asia.

The banned substance was hidden inside his clothes and weighed around 14grams.

One person was arrested with banned drugs on October 15 while banned narcotic substances weighing 1,500 kg were seized on October 8. These substances were found to be hidden inside the consignments of hair care products.

The customs seized 27kg 'tambaku' in September and they were found hidden inside a consignment of various foodstuffs.


In September second week, the Air Cargo Customs officials seized 34,990 banned Captagon pills that were being smuggled to Qatar concealed in a consignment of small tables. In July, officials foiled attempts to smuggle four packs of crystal meth (Methamphetamine) weighing 734gm. The seizure was effected by the Cargo customs at HIA.

The department has been issuing continuous warning against carrying illegal substances into the country. 

Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
