People wear face masks in Qatar as compulsory implementation of the safety measure starts today

As part of its efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Qatar, the State Cabinet has decided to implement mandatory wearing of safety face masks among all members of the society.

Everyone is required to wear masks upon leaving the house for any reason, except in the case when a person is alone while driving a vehicle. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will closely monitor the community's compliance with this policy.




The new directive officialy takes effect starting today. Perpetrators will be charged with imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years and a fine not over QR (200,000) two hundred thousand Qatari Riyals, or one of these two penalties.

The penalties stipulated in Decree Law No. (17) of 1990 regarding the prevention of infectious diseases shall be applied according to the Cabinet's decision.

Residents and expatriates of Qatar considered the implementation of compulsory wearing of face masks as it is in the best interest of public, considering the rapid increase of number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

MOI hotline 44579999 can be used by citizens and residents "to submit queries and complaints and to report cases of non-compliance with health and security guidelines for the prevention of Covid-19.
