Eid Al Adha celebrated in Qatar

Unprecedented gaiety displayed amidst precautionary measures to curb spread of Corona virus.

Residents of Qatar both citizens and expatriates alike celebrated the feast of Eid Al Adha yesterday with zealous enthusiasm despite all the precautionary measures in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Starting off with the customary Eid Al Adha prayer held at 401 different mosques and prayer grounds in the country, thousands of worshippers gathered together wearing face masks and maintaining the required social distancing.
The Eid prayer took place at 5.15am and the sermon was limited to just ten minutes keeping in mind pandemic safety measures.
Security personnel from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and officers from Ministry of Interior guided worshippers following the stringent precautionary measures in place to curb the spread of Covid-19 inside and well as outside surrounding places of prayer.
The 401 mosques and prayer grounds were prepared by the Mosques Management Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs across the country in conjunction with various other organistions.
The prayers were followed by the traditional slaughter of sacrificial animals as scores of people hurried to the Widam Food Company in Abu Hamour and lined up to collect coupons entitling them to purchase livestock of their choice.
The 95% Qatari shareholding company which exclusively handles government subsidized Australian meat to the country had all the necessary safety slaughterhouse measures in place ably aided by their security personnel and police patrols to ensure social distancing norms.
The old slaughterhouse located at the Central Market also witnessed their fair share of customers rushing  to buy sacrificial animals.
Traditional family gatherings followed by meals were another important highlight of the Eid Al Adha  celebrations as people met with their relatives and friends while following the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the Public Parks Department yesterday reopened playgrounds at public parks with limiting capacity of ten people while the Ministry of Environment provided all necessary services including ambulances at beaches across the country to allow visitors enjoy the Eid holidays.
Hundreds of residents flocked to parks, beaches and other picnic spots spread across the city including the popular Corniche to celebrate the joyous occasion with family and friends while maintaining social distance rules and regulations.
Beaches at Al Udaid, Dukhan, Al Marona, Al Ghariya, Al Mafir and Fuwairit saw people enjoying the gentle sea breeze wafting across the area in-spite of the comparatively hot humid weather.
Some beaches such as the Sealine Resort, Al Wakra Family Beach, Simaisima and Al Khor were dedicated only for families to maintain the privacy.
The phased gradual lifting of Covid-19 restrictions that started recently including the reopening of more mosques, public recreation facilities such as parks and beaches, malls, souqs and restaurants together with the resumption of a number of activities enabled people enjoy the Eid Al Adha 2020 festivities in a joyous yet unprecedented and memorable manner.
