Al Meera launches initiative to recycle used batteries

Under the slogan “Together for a Clean Environment” an initiative for the recycling of used batteries launched, yesterday, by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Al Meera Consumer Goods Company.

The initiative has been launched at Al Qatifiya branch of Al Meera and will see the placement of used battery collection, which will in its initial phase be carried out in bins across 10 branches, and then will expand further to other branches subsequently. 

The Director of Recycling and Waste Treatment Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Eng. Hamad Al Bahar, and Executive Director for Administrative Affairs and Human Resources at Al Meera, Saeed Mohammed Al Nabit, and a number of officials from the Ministry and Al Meera Company attended the event.

Customers and companies can now clean their homes and offices, especially junk drawers, closets and garages from used batteries and bring them to Al Meera branches for disposal in designated bins. 


Eng. Hamad Al-Bahar said: “Battery recycling is very important to prevent the potentially hazardous metals, they may contain, from damaging the environment, reduce waste from going to the landfills, and conserve natural resources.”

“This initiative will include 48 branches of Al Meera branches in the country out of 51 branches,” said Al Bahar adding that the launch of the initiative comes within in the framework of the Ministry’s goals and is represented by the Recycling and Waste Treatment Department to achieve the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Ministry’s Sustainable Strategy 2018-2022.

Al Nabit affirmed the keenness of Al Meera to support various initiatives that contribute to the preservation of the environment in coordination with the MME to spread awareness and environmental education.
