Qatar announced today the registration of 1,648 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid-19), with 4,451 patients infected with Covid-19 having recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases in the country to 30,290. The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) also announced 2 death cases due to the virus.

The reason for the large increase in the number of recoveries is due to the application of the latest international recommendations regarding criteria for recovering from COVID-19 infection, which was approved by MoPH.

The Ministry added that over the last 24 hours, 27 people were admitted to intensive care due to Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases in intensive care to 232 cases.

The Ministry stated that the total number of positive Covid-19 cases recorded in Qatar till now stands at 56,910 and there are 26,582 active cases under treatment. So far, 38 people died from the virus in the country.

Health officials conducted 4,081 tests in last 24 hours taking the total tests done so far to 222,069 tests.

The Ministry stated that the two new deaths recorded are for a 53 and 77 year old, who had both received the necessary medical care in intensive care. It offers sincere condolences and great sympathy to the families of the deceased.

MoPH stressed that the number of positive cases between citizens and residents witnessed a significant rise, with the number of infections relating to family gatherings, visits and sharing meals together with relatives and extended families having doubled.

Qatar is still in the peak phase of the virus outbreak, which is seeing a rise in the number of infections recorded daily, and therefore it is necessary to adhere to, more than ever before, the preventive measures and social measures recommended.

MoPH also reiterated the importance for the elderly or those suffering from chronic diseases and their family members to follow strict measures to reduce the chances of infection, including refraining from social visits during Eid al-Fitr.

It urged anyone with Covid-19 symptoms to immediately contact the MoPH helpline 16000, or go to one of the virus testing centers, as the earlier the disease is detected, the easier and faster the chances of recovery from it.

The four main testing centers include:

• Muaither Health Centre

• Rawdat Al Khalil Health Centre

• Um Slal Health Centre; and

• Al Gharafa Health Centre

MoPH reminds all to use a face mask as recommended and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting Covid-19. It also recommends that you visit its website regularly to view the latest information and instructions on the virus.
