Brad Pitt is fighting back against Angelina Jolie’s escalating efforts to make him look like the inferior parent, especially following her accusation Tuesday that he’s a deadbeat father who shirked his responsibility to provide “meaningful child support” for their six children.

Sources close to Pitt say he’s given Jolie millions of dollars for the children since she filed for divorce in September 2016, TMZ reported Tuesday evening. It’s true that they had an informal agreement, as Jolie alleged in court documents filed Tuesday, but Pitt has given Jolie “way, way more” than the amount agreed upon, the sources told TMZ.

Perhaps it depends on one’s definition of “meaningful.” But people close to the 54-year-old actor say the suggestion by Jolie’s attorney that he hasn’t met anyone’s common-sense definition of “meaningful” is “a joke,” or a cynical bid for publicity, according to TMZ and Page Six.

They also said Pitt can provide proof to show that he’s been more than generous. NBC News quoted another source earlier Tuesday who said Pitt “has fulfilled his commitments.”

Jolie’s filing Tuesday appears to be part of a stepped-up effort to get a judge to craft a custody and child-support order and to issue a final divorce decree as soon as possible, so that the actress, director and globe-trotting humanitarian can move on with her life, TMZ also reported.

Reports Monday said that Jolie’s divorce fight against Pitt has entered a “new phase,” with her bringing on new attorneys for her legal team — and possibly sidelining her original attorney Laura Wasser who is known in family court circles for promoting an amicable approach to divorce settlements and co-parenting.

Sources told TMZ over the weekend that Jolie, 43, is “out for blood” in wanting to control if and how much contact Pitt has with their children, Maddox, 17, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

In June, the couple’s failure to reach an agreement on where the children would spend the summer prompted a judge to intervene and to create a detailed scheduled that allowed Pitt to spend time with the children, both in London — where Jolie is living and filming a sequel to “Maleficent” — and in Los Angeles, Pitt’s home base, where he has been shooting scenes for Quentin Tarantino’s new Charles Manson-themed saga.

But the judge also appeared to rebuke Jolie for not doing enough to encourage Pitt’s relationship with the children. The judge said Jolie risked losing custody if the situation didn’t improve.

According to reports, the judge said it “is critical that each of (the children) have a healthy and strong relationship with their father and mother.”
