Ministry likely to more than double expat maternity fees

Kuwait ministry is studying the possibility of increasing expatriates maternity fees for to more than 100 percent, said by Minister of Health Sheikh Bassel Al-Sabah, reports Al-Rai daily.

The women in Kuwait who give birth in government hospitals pay KD 50,  which  does not cover the cost of delivery said by the health sources also sources mentioned that  cost of medical services in general is very high and there is much difference in delivery charges between the public and private hospital.

The sources pointed out that  after the 100 percent hike in the fees  the fees of  delivery will still remain lower than the private sector.

The review of fees is to improve the quality of service provided the Health Ministry places the health of the patient at the top of its priorities.

He pointed out that the the new electronic prescription also will be added in the new plan.


Also, MP Safa’a Al-Hashem in response to the Health Minister Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah accused expatriates for overcrowding at maternity hospitals in the nation and called for allocating good hospitals ove Kuwait City, especially the Amiri, Sabah and Jaber hospitals for Kuwaitis and sending expatriates to hospitals in Farwaniya and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

She also also said that many expats come to kuwait on visit visa only for delivery to enjoy the free services at public hospitals. She included many  expatriate woman comes to Kuwait just 10 day before delivery then they will admit in public hospitals to get  excellent services including free baby milk  then they will leave the nation with their babies after paying KD 3.
