A substantial blast severely harmed a bread shop in focal Paris on Saturday, harming a few people and crushing windows in encompassing structures, police and AFP columnists at the scene said.

A fire broke out after the impact at around 9am (0800 GMT) in the bustling ninth area of the city, which police suspect may have been caused by a gas spill.

Pictures posted on Twitter indicated flotsam and jetsam covering the road and the lower some portion of the building smothered and ablaze.
