Frequently asked questions on food safety answered by the Ministry

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in Qatar answered some frequently asked questions about food safety on its official website.

Here are the details shared by the Ministry for your guidance and reference:

Question:

E.coli disease is spread recently , what are the reasons for the spread of this

disease and what are the methods of prevention?

Answer:

E.coli 0104 , is spread in Germany , Spain and some of European countries , the scientists said that the reason was the bean sprouts that are contaminated with the E.coli 0104 bacterium, which are planted next to the vegetables again leading to a transition from beans to the rest of vegetables such as cucumbers, lettuce and tomato.

It is advisable to wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating prevent the use of beans in salad , because the bacteria E.coli 0104 intervention in the sprout and can not be washed from the outside, but it dies when cooked well.

The reason for contamination of bean sprouts they are planted fertilizer contaminated with feces of the animals that we must work through prevention, healthy food, wash well and cook the vegetables well before eating.

Question:

I am dealer of food and I would like to make some business offers on some food, what are the conditions that must be taken?

Answer:

There are two types of trade offers:

Free samples By submitting a request of the owner of the business and determine the length of the offer, location and identification of a food item to be announced then apply for Markets Department ( parking permit ) and pay the fee for that and then take the approval from the Department of Food Control in the municipality and so that the food inspector inspects the place ,the application requirements and health certificates to the sellers.

For special offers, the food products allowed to put their offers before 3 months of expiration and they must take approval from the Ministry of Economy to set prices in addition to the approval of the competent municipal to attach samples to make sure of the health requirements ,date of production and finish.

I am a seller of food and there are some foods will be expired (up to a month), what should I do?

Answer:

You can even sell it to the twelfth night of the date of the last day of the expiration date.

Question:

What types of food contamination and what are the ways of transmission of infection?

Answer:

Food poisoning is is caused by eating contaminated food with either biology (Mikrobea) or chemically or physically.

- Biology (Mikrobea): bacteria, viruses, parasites, mold.

- Chemical: Insecticides, cleaners / detergents.

- Material: glass, hair, adhesive bandage, wood.

Question:

What are the ways of transmission of food poisoning?

Answer:

Moves through three basic elements, namely:

Environment:

- Dust can transmit germs

- Insects

Human:

- Who has direct contact with food.

- Lack of attention to personal hygiene.

- Transmission of microbes from an infected person for food.

Food:

- Contamination with contaminated food with food last.

- Non-completion when cooking food well.
