Katara's Annual Dhow Festival Begins Today

The seventh Traditional Dhow Festival, organized by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation will begin on Tuesday. The festival that preserves and renews Qatar's maritime heritage will last till November 18 at Katara beach. 


The event will be more special this year with the participation of various countries like Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Turkey, India, Greece, Zanzibar and Iran. This regional and international participation will provide audience an opportunity to observe maritime traditions of different cultures, said a report in QNA quoting a statement from the organizers.

The festival which holds a prime place in the list of Katara's annual cultural and heritage events is being held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It will feature Dhow exhibition, traditional performances and crafts, a fish market, Dhow cruises, Traditional Café along with an Operetta under the theme 'Promise of Prosperity and Glory.'

Third Fath Al Kheir Voyage, from Qatar to Kuwait through Oman will start on November 17 Friday as part of the festival. The Dhow that consists 16 Qatari sailors will be led by Capt. Mohamed Youssef Al Sada and will return to Qatar by National Day.
