First Lusail Tram Reaches Hamad Port

The first Lusail Tram was received by Qatar Rail at Hamad Port on Monday, after being departed from Alstom factory in the French City of La Rochelle to Barcelona.

The trains, after being loaded off at Hamad Port, will head towards  its final destination at the main depot where it will be assembled and tested, as reported by The Peninsula.


Further, it has also been reported that the tram will undergo a series of technical tests to ensure the highest standards of safety.

Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, the managing director and chief executive officer at Qatar Rail noted that the arrival of the Tram marks the beginning of a new phase. 

As a matter of fact, the design of the Lusail Tram was inspired by “Al Mehmel”, which signifies “The Dhow” – the old traditional Qatari boat used for pearl fishing.  

Moreover, the 35.4 km long Lusail Tram Network will launch in 2020. which would include four lines and 28 stations aboveground and underground. 

73 per cent of the construction work has been completed till now.
