3-year JAIL term and QR200,000 fine: Four persons arrested for violating Qatar’s ban on public gatherings

Law enforcement personnel on Saturday arrested four persons for violating the ban on public gatherings. 

The action comes after a video emerged on soial media showing the accused together in a "wild area", the Ministry of Interior said in a tweet on Sunday.

Qatar recently banned all forms of public gatherings as part of measures to limit the spread of the virus. 

 

Assembling in public places, attending events such as weddings and majlis meetings, and participating in group prayers, even on courtyards of mosques, inside buildings or rooftops, now carry a three-year jail term and QR200,000 fine. 

Qatar recently began using speakers attached to drones to urge the public to stay home or exercise social distancing to contain the spread of the virus. The messages are being announced in several languages including English, Urdu, Hindi, Nepalese, Malayalam, Tamil and Sinhalese.
