The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will be the 18th tournament for men’s national basketball teams. This time China is hosting the tournament and it will mark a new era for the competition as described.

The official logo of the tournament was officially unveiled on 21st March 2017 in a ceremony held in Shanghai. The design of the logo was inspired by the Chinese Dragon Dance and the logo’s concept was inspired by the Beijing Opera where the actors symbolize concepts such as wisdom,power, persistence and perfection, which are prerequisite characteristics that the participating players of the national team will need to exhibit in order to succeed.

China will become the exclusive marketing partner for the domestic commercial rights of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. Wanda Sports company also in the race to get the domestic commercial rights of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. The tournament will be staged across eight Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Foshan, Shenzhen and Dongguan from 31st August to 15th September 2019.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will be played in three stages. In the first stage of the tournament, 32 qualified teams will be sorted into eight groups of four and each team in a group will play each other once. The top two teams from each group and a total of 16 teams will enter into the second group stage. In the second stage, there will be four groups of four made up of the teams from the first stage, again playing each other once. The top two teams from the second stage will qualify for the final knockout phase. 

After the first two round’s consecutive disappointed defeats against Australia and Philippines, Qatar’s senior basketball team is extremely determined to beat the home side in order to keep their qualification dream alive. On Thursday Qatar team will face the Philippines team in the fourth round on February 21  in Doha at Al-Gharafa Sports Club Multi-Purpose Hall.
