Ways to Infuse Global Cuisine into Your Everyday Meal Plan

While it's really exciting to travel to places like Paris, Tanzania and Mexico, most people don't have the financial margin to travel every week. Thankfully, there's one major way you can bring those places to you. Food is such a major part of any culture. It's also one of the main motivators for global travel. Additionally, every country has its own way of cooking food in a distinctly unique and delightful way. By adopting a few of the following ideas, you can infuse global cuisine into your daily meal plan. 

Infuse Oils, Spices and Syrups

The olive is a staple within Mediterranean cuisine. Not only are olives excellent for providing rich flavor, they produce one of the most delightful oils. After you've purchased extra virgin olive oil, use it to create your own salad dressings. You can infuse extra virgin olive oil with fresh garlic, fresh thyme and specific vinegars. 

Consider infusing honey and other syrups with lemon balm, chamomile and mint. When you infuse honey, it provides a different level of depth to whatever dish or drink it's added to. The infusion process can be completed in various ways. You can opt to use leave the oils or honey jars in sunlight. Roasting is another option to consider. 

Season the Meats in Advance

Don't underestimate the power of seasoning your meat in advance. Depending on the type of meat you're preparing, an overnight soak can really do wonders for the flavor. When it's time to season your meats, it's a good idea to use a mix of acids and seasonings in order to make an impact. Use acids like vinegar or citric acid to work through the meat. Lemons and limes are pretty typical for seasoning and cleaning meats in a number of cultural cuisine practices. When you're seasoning the meat, don't be afraid to come out of your comfort zone. Instead of using a simple dash of paprika, add Hungarian paprika or Spanish paprika. There are many versions of paprika to choose from, and each option provides its own unique composition. 

Try Different Cookbooks and Tutorials

When you've mastered the way you regularly cook at home, it feels intuitive to you. However, when you're trying out different cuisines that you've never made before, set aside the intuitive cooking approach for a second. This is primarily because you don't know what you're doing. Instead, it's a wise idea to do your research first. Find recipes that are authentic to a specific culture. Look for ways to make that specific dish. Once you've learned how to make it in the traditional sense, it's nice to place your own spin on it. 

Take the Long Route

From a global perspective, people take pride in preparing their food in ways that are both nutritious and enjoyable. This process doesn't come quickly. This means that you might have to thaw, season and prep meals in advance. If you know that you'd like to enjoy homemade garlic-infused olive oil dipping sauce for your appetizers at next week's dinner, you'll need to begin the infusion process as soon as possible. Though the long route might seem annoying at first, it's definitely worth it in the long run.
