Qatar, Japan Sign Memorandum Exchange to Amend Air Services Agreement

Doha: Qatar and Japan have signed an exchange of official memorandums concerning amendments to their Air Services Agreement, in a move aimed at strengthening civil aviation cooperation and improving air connectivity between the two countries.

The agreement includes an annex amending the air route schedule, according to the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA). 

The exchange of memorandums was signed by Mohammed bin Faleh Al Hajri, In Charge of Managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, and HE Naoto Hisajima, Ambassador of Japan to the State of Qatar. 

Strengthening Qatar–Japan Aviation Cooperation

The signing forms part of ongoing efforts by Qatar and Japan to deepen cooperation in the civil aviation sector.

According to QCAA, the amendment is intended to support the development of air services and enhance connectivity between Qatar and Japan, while contributing to the broader bilateral relationship between the two countries. 

Air services agreements provide the regulatory framework governing commercial air links between countries and can cover matters such as designated airlines, permitted routes, traffic rights and other operational arrangements.

The latest memorandum exchange updates the existing framework between Qatar and Japan by incorporating changes to the agreed air route schedule.

Supporting Better Air Connectivity

Improved aviation cooperation could help support passenger movement, tourism, business travel and economic links between the two countries.

Qatar has continued to develop its international aviation partnerships as part of efforts to strengthen Doha’s role as a major global air transport hub.

Japan, meanwhile, remains an important economic and strategic partner for Qatar, with cooperation between the two countries extending across energy, trade, investment, transport and other sectors.

The latest agreement reflects the two sides’ interest in further developing their aviation relationship and providing a stronger framework for future air services.

Qatar Continues Expanding Aviation Partnerships

QCAA has been actively pursuing bilateral cooperation with civil aviation authorities worldwide, including through air services agreements, memorandums of understanding and aviation negotiations.

The authority said the Qatar–Japan memorandum exchange represents another step towards developing international air transport links and strengthening bilateral relations. 

The amended agreement is expected to provide an updated regulatory basis for air services between Qatar and Japan as both countries continue working to expand connectivity and cooperation in the aviation sector.
