Turmeric: Why we should all have this golden spice in our homes!

Turmeric: Why we should all have this golden spice in our homes! By Fatuma A. Abdullahi - September 09, 2021

The goodness of turmeric

Even without Hard science to back this up!  most of us have put on a turmeric mask, be it because of our culture or the current craze around turmeric as a super food.

Turmeric’s scientific name is Curcuma Longa, it has a beautiful yellow color and a cool, earthy aroma.  It is said to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties that can help smoothen your skin, prevent breakouts and give you a natural glow.

It has a long history within Indian, Middle Eastern and East African communities who have used it for health treatment for a variety of skin and body problems for centuries. Turmeric has stood the test of time because it truly gives the benefits associated with its mystical nature.

Its everywhere, In food, Medicine, beauty and much more.

Let’s have a look at some benefits of Turmeric.

Turmeric for your skin!

Turmeric is present in so many skin care products, well, its because it has a lot of extraordinary qualities that benefit the skin. Curcumin, the main ingredient in turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

The powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds work together to heal and bring out natural healthy skin. It restores your natural glow, treats uneven skin tone, and brightens. Its anti-bacterial properties also help fade acne scars.

Turmeric will stain your skin! Personally, I don’t advocate for you to try and get rid of the stain, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of a yellow hue when you are home ??. Its also perfect for when you are applying makeup, it gives you a glowy undertone that makes your make up pop!

Use turmeric powder by combining it with other natural ingredients such as honey, yogurt, milk, or the ultimate best water. Turmeric face masks are also helpful in getting rid of unwanted facial hair.

Its Health Benefits

Turmeric, particularly its most active ingredient, curcumin, has a long list of scientifically documented health benefits, including the ability to boost heart health among many.  Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties may also help with depression and arthritis symptoms.  I know it’s yellow, but it also gives your teeth a beautiful glow when you brush with it – do it when home.

I can attest to the fact that turmeric is by far the most effective nutritional supplement in existence. There are many studies out there that show that turmeric has many benefits for your body.  It should be in everyone’s medicine and spice cabinets.

Drink it!

Turmeric’s taste is not repulsive unlike other supplements out there. Many of us make turmeric tea (Bring water, a teaspoon of turmeric and cloves to a boil, add honey to taste.)  Or my ultimate favorite Turmeric Latte!  (Milk, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, ground turmeric, some sugar or syrup of your choice bring all to a boil) and enjoy.
