COVID-19 update in Qatar

The recent marginal increase in the number of new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Qatar is not a cause for alarm but this, along with the emergence of the new Omicron variant around the world, is a reminder that the battle against Covid-19 is not yet over, a health official has said.

Speaking in a video published at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Twitter, on Sunday, Dr. Jameela al-Ajmi, executive director of Corporate Infection Prevention & Control at Hamad Medical Corporation, explained how the community could support the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

She said that “the increase along with the emergence of the new Omicron variant around the world is a reminder that the battle against Covid-19 is not yet over.”

Explaining how the community can support the ongoing fight against COVID-19, Dr. Al Ajmi said that:

"We can all play a part in the ongoing fight against Covid-19 through three main actions: 1) getting vaccinated, including having a booster vaccine when your are eligible; 2) getting tested quickly if you experience signs and symptoms of Covid-19 or have been exposed to a Covid case; and 3) adhering to the precautionary measures, including social distancing, regular handwashing and wearing of mask as it has been proven to reduce the spread of the virus," she explained.

Current restrictions require people to wear masks in indoor setting and certain outdoor settings, including public activities, large sporting events, schools and universities.

"Together, we can continue Qatar's successful fight against Covid-19," Dr. Al Ajmi added.
