A surprise inspection campaign was conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) on commercial outlets at the Industrial Area and the Old Airport commercial street to check their compliance with the stipulations of Law No 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection.

Inspectors from the Ministry reviewed the invoices of items that were later deemed counterfeit. Around 13 violations were registered at the Industrial Area, along with few others in Doha and Al Khor.

As reported by Gulf Times, MEC inspectors searched storehouses in Doha city and discovered 470 counterfeit items, mostly branded perfumes and cosmetics.

While in Al Khor, 950 counterfeit toys were found along with 20 bags of expired tobacco.

The Ministry took legal measures in line with Law No 8 of 2008 that entails a fine of QR3,000 to QR1mn, in addition to the administrative closure of the outlets.
