Dela Rosa PNP to receive new rifles from China

PNP chief Dela Rosa said China will give more than 20,000 rifles to the Philippines

It will be a great help to fill up the more than 75,000 firearms shortage in the PNP

Dela Rosa also said China did not ask anything in return.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will receive more than 20,000 new firearms from China; this was according to PNP chief Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa said that if this pushes through, it will surely be  a great help in filling up the firearm shortage after US lawmakers blocked the sale of weapons ordered from the United States.

“Kung matuloy ‘yon, okay pa rin, pero we need more kasi we are 75,000 short eh 23,000 lang ang ibibigay so malaki pa rin ang kakulangan, pero malaking tipid na rin ‘yan galing sa China kapag natuloy,” said Dela Rosa on Wednesday, May 17.

[If this pushes through, it will be okay, but we need more because we are 75,000 short and they will only give 23,000, but still we save money too.]

The firearms that China promised to donate are M4 carbine rifles and Dela Rosa said they did not ask anything in return.

This came after the Department of National Defense (DND) said last week they are planning to purchase equipment from a Chinese company during President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent visit to Beijing.

China has also pledged $500-M (P3.6-B) grant to the Philippines from which DND plans to get the amount for the purchase of new warfares.
