A lot has been said and written about dogs. But sometimes, even these faithful animals go a step beyond to surprise us in ways that can't be explained.

Recently, an elderly dog named Max was hailed a hero after he stood by a three-year-old girl after she got lost in Queensland's bushlands.

The 17-year-old blue heeler stayed with his little human friend all through the night and played an important role in leading the rescuers to her.

According to ABC News, the girl Aurora reportedly went missing around 3 PM yesterday after she wandered off alone. She was found today morning at 8 AM, with Max by her side.

"SUCH A GOOD BOY, MAX! He stayed with his 3-year-old human who was lost near Warwick last night while we frantically searched for her," wrote Queensland Police in their Facebook post that has been shared over 8,000 times.

The rescue party found Max first and then was led to Aurora by the dog. Max spent over 15 hours with Aurora in the wild, keeping her safe from the cold and the rains. Luckily, the girl was rescued with only minor bruises and cuts.

For being such a good boy, Max has been named an honourary police dog and has earned a whole lot of admiration. As he should.
